Bankers warned against ‘business as usual’

Alistair Darling, chancellor, has promised tighter regulation of the financial system and warned that bankers who returned to excessive risk-taking would be “brought back to earth”.

Amid signs of the return of a bonus culture in the City, he said it would be “disastrous” if bankers got the idea that the crisis was over and they could go back to their old ways.
