Croatia to fight crime in bid to join EU

Crime and corruption will not be allowed to derail Croatia’s hopes of joining the European Union within three years, Ivo Sanader, the embattled prime minister, vowed on Friday.

The authorities would do everything necessary to root out organised crime in time to become the 28th EU state before Mr Sanader’s current term ends in 2011.
