The former governor of the Bank of Italy was Friday ordered to stand trial in October over alleged wrongdoing in the country’s banking scandal of 2005.
Antonio Fazio, revered for most of his time as governor from 1993, stands accused of behaving improperly while a group of Italian bankers and financiers waged a battle with ABN Amro of the Netherlands for control of Banca Antonveta, a medium-sized Italian bank.
