Stability before tax cuts, says Cameron

David Cameron has pledged to place the stability of Britain's economy ahead of the Tories' traditional desire for tax cuts as he battles to restore his party's reputation for economic management.

In the seven weeks since he became Conservative leader, Mr Cameron has shifted his party onto the political centre-ground by declaring that investment in hospitals and schools has the same priority for the Tories as tax reduction.
