European bourses slide on growth fears

The benchmark European stock index slid into its third consecutive day of losses on Thursday after dipping in and out of positive territory.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 closed down 0.2 per cent to 852.55. The index has lost about 8 per cent in the last three days as growing worries about the severity of a global recession overshadowed hopes that a stimulus package in China would help boost demand.
