Need for property benchmark intensifies

An accurate benchmark index for the commercial property market has always been a problem owing to the relatively few transactions and disparate nature of the assets in the sector.

However, a barometer of global real estate has never been more necessary given the huge sums of money locked in the sector by investors, who need to mark portfolios against a benchmark level in the midst of a sharp property slump.
