Oil steadies as commodities consolidate

Risk appetite among commodity investors remained muted on Monday amid a combination of uncertainty over prospects for global economic recovery, concerns about the future regulatory environment and hesitancy at the start of the US earnings season.

Oil prices dropped by more than $1 a barrel, extending their retreat after last week’s sharp fall, while base metals were mainly weaker and silver prolonged its slide.
