TeliaSonera, the Nordic telecommunications company, dropped the Latvian internet connection of a web-hosting company last week after investigators alleged that sites served by the company distributed software for infecting personal computers and co-ordinated the theft of financial information.

Such drastic action against a hosting company by an internet service provider is rare, especially in eastern Europe.
