French take a lead in mobile payments

The mobile phone is at last poised to replace the purse – and thanks to a classic piece of pan-industry collaboration, the French may be among the first to achieve the critical mass needed for contactless mobile phone payments to replace coins in daily life.

Consumer trials of contactless mobile payments lasting almost two years have demonstrated the success of interoperability standards in Caen and Strasbourg.
