A US$100m Red Cross project to build new shelters for more than 60,000 tsunami survivors in Indonesia’s devastated Aceh province has virtually ground to a halt because of problems sourcing timber, officials said on Wednesday.
Working with the UN and Indonesia, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies last year launched a plan to move any survivors still living in tents into sturdier shelters with wooden floors and walls by the end of March this year.
