Whitehall gender pay gap outpaces business

The pay gap between men and women is higher in the civil service than in the private sector, and is 25 per cent in some state institutions, according to official figures obtained by the Financial Times.

The government has made it a priority to address pay differences and last week unveiled plans to require companies with 250 or more staff to give details of the average hourly pay of male and female workers.
