Proposal to raise UK savings protection to £500,000

Depositors could have savings of up to £500,000 ($715,900) guaranteed under proposals being considered by the UK financial watchdog.

The Financial Services Authority yesterday began seeking views on the idea that would provide extra protection for holders of temporary high deposit balances if another bank were to fail.
