Taiwan premier resignation sets stage for shake-up

Frank Hsieh, Taiwan’s premier, resigned on Tuesday, ending more than a month of limbo after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party’s crushing election defeat in early December.

Mr Hsieh told reporters his resignation had been accepted by Chen Shui-bian, president, and the cabinet would dissolve next Monday to make way for a successor before the Lunar New Year holiday in late January.
