US misses internet gambling deadline

The US yesterday failed to meet a deadline set by the World Trade Organisation to comply with a ruling that it unfairly discriminates against internet gambling services supplied by the tiny Caribbean island state of Antigua and Barbuda.

In theory, Antigua, which has a population of about 68,000, could seek WTO authorisation for sanctions against imports from the US - a purely symbolic move.
