Bhutan elections run smoothly

Bhutan took the first steps toward democracy with its first-ever election this week, marking a historic moment for the remote Himalayan country that is shifting away from a century-old monarchy.

”The election on the whole went off smoothly,” said the Election Commission of Bhutan upon announcing 15 new members of Bhutan’s fledgling parliament.
