Bankruptcy bill set for passage after long debate

A long-debated measure to overhaul US bankruptcy laws appeared set for passage on Tuesday after the Senate defeated an abortion-related amendment that had derailed the bill in the past.

Approval of the bill, on the heels of a measure to limit class-action lawsuits last month, would mark another early pro-business victory for the Republican-controlled Congress and show the strengthened majority's ability to tackle issues that have lingered for years.
