Tories play down hopes of big Norwich win

The Conservatives have clinched victory in the first by-election since the expenses scandal, seizing the constituency of Norwich North from Labour for the first time since John Major’s defeat in 1997.

But Tory campaigners were at pains to play down expectations of clinching a big majority on the scale of last year’s Crewe and Nantwich upset .
