Spread betting is more popular in the UK than at any time since services were launched - but providers are not relying on volatility in equity and commodity markets to maintain their trading volumes.

From this month, the leading spread-betting companies are launching online services offering better education, information and communication - which they believe will improve their clients', and their own, profit margins.
