Jevic underlines pressure on US hauliers

The collapse of a prominent New Jersey haulage operator this week has underscored the intense pressures on the US trucking industry.

Jevic Transportation, which operated 1,100 trucks, shut after 27 years, blaming soaring fuel and insurance costs, the economic slowdown and tightening credit markets. Sun Capital Partners, a Florida private-equity group, bought Jevic in July 2006.
