Betonsports founder given US jail term

The founder of Betonsports, the defunct UK online gambling company that floated in 2004, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy and other charges.

Gary Kaplan, who was arrested in the Dominican Republic in March 2007, forfeited more than $50m (£30m) in criminal and related proceeds he made from taking sports bets from US customers by telephone and on the internet, in violation of the Wire Wager Act.
