OMV blames Brussels as it ends Mol chase

OMV on Wednesday admitted defeat in its attempt to buy Mol of Hungary, as the Austrian oil and gas group blamed “unacceptable” conditions set by the European Commission

Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, OMV’s chief executive, justified the year-long battle to create a dominant regional oil and gas group and suggested the defeat would leave central Europe open to cash- and energy-rich foreign rivals, such as Russia’s Lukoil.
