Gender gap narrows in Brazil

When Chieko Aoki began moving up the ranks of the Brazilian hotel industry in the 1980s, she found that the higher she rose, the fewer women she saw around her.

The most difficult thing about those times, recalls the founder and president of Brazil’s Blue Tree Hotels group, was being treated as an ­exception.
