Viacom profit hurt by fall in advertising

Viacom’s third-quarter profit fell 37 per cent, hurt by lower global and domestic advertising revenue and the absence of a blockbuster film release in the quarter.

Lower marketing spending, especially by the US automotive industry, and beverages and video games sectors, dragged on the media group’s advertising sales. The weaker global advertising market led to a worldwide 2 per cent decrease to $1.16bn in advertising revenue.
