Snags emerge in US talks with India on N-deal

Efforts by the US and India to negotiate a civilian nuclear assistance agreement have run into significant difficulties that experts say could complicate the Bush administration’s drive to secure approval from a sceptical Congress.

The administration wants Congress to move fast to approve the plan, which would reopen the door for US nuclear exports to India, even before crucial details of the agreement are hammered out. The House international relations committee is due to vote on a draft bill on June 27.
