Caterpillar slashes top salaries by half

Caterpillar is slashing its executives’ salaries by as much as half as part of a move by the world’s biggest maker of construction equipment and heavy-duty engines to cut costs.

The bellwether manufacturer is also scrapping merit-based pay increases, implementing a hiring freeze and offering employees compensation packages to leave the company.
