Darling wins backing for his tax cuts

Alistair Darling was right to cut taxes and increase public spending in the face of a recession, say nearly two-thirds of the economists polled.

But a similar number say the chancellor has left public finances in a parlous state. This is likely to weaken any recovery and could leave Britain facing higher long-term interest rates and lower growth for years.
