Men’s classics: Comeback of the icons in tune with a changed reality

Although the watchmaking industry appeared resilient in 2008, the outlook for this year suggests the global financial crisis will take its toll. Extra features and gadgetry appear to be being phased out as leading watchmaking companies are reverting to a more simple, classic design.

Men’s watches launched at the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 indicate that watchmakers are choosing to take a more streamlined approach, with “elegant” and “no frills” being the buzz words of Baselworld 2009.
