Angry Chinese target French supermarkets

Thousands of young Chinese demonstrated outside Carrefour supermarkets in at least 10 cities at the weekend despite government efforts to damp nationalistic fervour that was sparked by disruptions to the Olympics torch relay in Paris.

Several stores had to close because of the large crowds gathered to show support for the Olympics, to criticise alleged foreign media bias and Tibetan “separatists” and to call for a boycott of French goods.
