Reed Elsevier names housebuilder as chief

Reed Elsevier has recruited a former head of a UK housebuilder with a reputation for dealmaking to be its new chief executive.

The publisher, which has interests ranging from information provider Lexis Nexis to film magazine Variety, said Ian Smith, the former head of Taylor Woodrow, would take over from Sir Crispin Davis next year.
