Many of the world's leading pharmaceutical groups have announced reorganisations of their research and development functions in different ways in recent years as they attempt to boost innovation, writes Andrew Jack in London.
One tactic, symbolised by GlaxoSmithKline's Centres for Excellence in Drug Discovery at the start of the decade, and more recently emulated by AstraZeneca, has been to reduce bureaucracy and re-create smaller, more entrepreneurial structures.
