Alisher Usmanov, the Russian billionaire whose interest in Arsenal appeared to have been thwarted by the board, has increased his company's stake in the Premier League club to 24 per cent.

Red & White Holdings, the Arsenal investment vehicle he co-owns with business partner Farhad Moshiri, paid £1.7m for 190 shares at £9,000 apiece.
