Canadian PM hints at general election

Stephen Harper, Canada’s prime minister, left little doubt on Tuesday that he plans to call a snap general election soon, with the vote to be held in October.

“The country must have a government that can function during a time of economic uncertainty,” Mr Harper told reporters in Ottawa. “If it’s not this government, or not this parliament, the public will have an opportunity to decide whom.”
