US firms lobby for regulation by principles

The US should change the way it oversees financial markets by applying a “principles-based” approach across the country’s patchwork of regulators, according to a group representing the 100 largest financial services firms. It says the overhaul would boost the competitiveness of the country’s capital markets.

The call will come in a report next month by the Financial Services Round­table, a lobby group based in Washington.
