Nerves get the best of Asian markets

Asian markets ended lower after a choppy Tuesday trading session, sent into retreat after timid morning gains by persisting concerns over the health of the US economy and global credit markets after Monday’s sell-off.

Wall Street failed to give Asia much impetus, with the US markets closing flat or slightly lower. Commodity prices continued to rise, raising concern about higher costs for companies at a time when fears about a recession in the US, one of Asia’s largest trading partners, grow stronger by the day.
