Brown attacked by ex-defence chiefs

Gordon Brown came under attack from three former chiefs of the defence staff on Friday for his conduct over the Afghan war, with the trio all calling for “clear direction” over policy.

As the prime minister made his toughest attack yet on the failure of Hamid Karzai’s government to reform – calling it a “byword for corruption” – the three former defence chiefs questioned whether Mr Brown was truly committed to making progress in Afghanistan.
