United front needed to face down rebels

Tony Blair and Gordon Brown forged a powerful alliance in the election campaign in order to put Labour back in power.

The central question in British politics now is whether that co-operation will continue or whether we will soon be back to the old squabbles of the past. If co-operation between the prime minister and the chancellor carries on with the same intensity seen recently, then Labour has a chance of pushing through a third-term reform programme.
