Protesters surround Thailand’s parliament

Thousands of anti-government demonstrators surrounded Thailand’s parliament on Monday in an attempt to force the administration of prime minister Somchai Wongsawat to resign.

The demonstration is the latest move in a long-running campaign that has paralysed Thai politics and gouged such a deep divide in society that many analysts are starting to despair that it can be repaired before it descends into outright violence.
