Carbon traders welcome news

The tough line taken on greenhouse gas emissions trading by the European Union’s executive body on Wednesday was welcomed by carbon traders and by some within the business community.

The stronger line taken by the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, also bolsters the bloc’s floundering emissions trading scheme as it moves to its second phase starting in 2008 after a bumpy start since its inception last year.
