Thousands of mourners on Wednesday gathered around the home of Pierre Gemayel, assassinated industry minister and son of former president Amin Gemayel in the village of Bifkaya, north of Beirut, where Mr Gemayel is to be buried on Thursday.

The Lebanese army was out in force in the capital in the morning, diverting traffic away from Christian areas of Beirut.
