Now's the time to railroad you into more upbeat thinking

Cheer up, it might never happen. This is possibly the least helpful and most irritating piece of advice you are ever likely to receive. It is usually delivered when you are at your lowest ebb, frowning into your PC screen or poring over a spreadsheet that contains impossibly depressing numbers. No amount of positive (or wishful) thinking will improve things. Might never happen? It already has.

But there I go again, Mr Misery whingeing on as usual. Journalists are temperamentally inclined - critics might say pathologically inclined - to accentuate the negative.
