Fee-paying parents have no interest in state sector

Sir, Your editorial “UK schools need Swedish lessons” (August 15) sidesteps an extremely significant factor affecting state schools in the UK – the existence of a comparatively large number of private fee-paying schools that are beyond the reach of most parents. Sweden’s Independent Schools Directory lists just 13 institutions, several of which are international schools.
