Yasuo Fukuda, Japan’s prime minister, is on Friday expected to pledge that Japan will cut carbon emissions by roughly one-fifth by 2020 and earmark $10bn to help developing countries pay for environmental technology.
In a speech to the World Economic Forum at Davos, designed to recapture what Japan fears may be its waning reputation as an environmental leader, Mr Fukuda will set mid-term numerical targets for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
