Obama begins overhaul of ‘war on terror’

President Barack Obama has suspended the military commissions at Guantánamo Bay – marking the first step towards keeping his campaign promise to shut the detention camp.

Mr Obama was reportedly preparing to sign an order on Thursday that would call for the detention facility in Cuba to be shut within a year. In an initial step, though, he ordered a 120-day pause in the commissions to provide time for a policy overhaul.
