Bush digs in over healthcare bill

President George W. Bush vetoed legislation on Wednesday that would have expanded access to a government-funded children’s healthcare programme, accusing Democrats of moving the US healthcare system in the wrong direction.

The veto was the latest step in a game of brinkmanship between the White House and Congress over the bill, with both sides accusing the other of playing politics with children’s health.
