Competition moves closer for ASX

Australia took an important step towards opening its securities market to competition by announcing plans to transfer part of the regulatory function of the Australian Securities Exchange to the corporate watchdog.

From the third quarter next year, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission will supervise all licensed financial markets including brokers and market participants. It is already responsible for enforcing securities laws.
