President's approval rating 'at lowest level since Kursk'

President Vladimir Putin's approval rating has fallen to its lowest level since the Kursk submarine tragedy four years ago, according to data collected after the Beslan school siege by an independent pollster.

Mr Putin's support fell to 66 per cent in mid-September, down 2 percentage points from August and part of a continuing decline from 81 per cent this March at the time of his re-election as Russian president, the Levada Centre found.
