Roche decision denies cancer drug to Britons

British patients will lose the chance of treatment with Roche's latest and most expensive cancer medicine after the Swiss pharmaceutical group refused to cooperate with the government's medicines advisory body.

The National Institute for Clinical Health and Excellence, or Nice, has advised against the National Health Service using Avastin as a first-line treatment for lung and breast cancer after Roche declined to answer its requests for data on the drug's clinical and cost effectiveness.
