Spy chief warns on Afghan insurgency

The government of President Hamid Karzai controls less than a third of Afghanistan and the insurgency against it has not been contained, the head of US intelligence said on Wednesday.

Admiral Michael McConnell, director of national intelligence, said the insurgency had not been contained, with Taliban insurgents in control of 10-11 per cent of the country.
