Chirac calls for urgent talks on youth labour laws

French president Jacques Chirac called for urgent talks on Friday between the government and unions over new labour laws after protests turned violent in Paris.

The government is bracing itself for Saturday when the unions and student join forces in marching against the new measures, with numbers expected to reach about million.
