Alan Joyce, Qantas’s new boss, is proving as adept as his predecessor, Geoff Dixon, when taking the hard decisions to avert the impact of a prolonged aviation crisis.
His restructuring of the Australian flag carrier – which includes cutting 1,750 more jobs, deferring aircraft orders and grounding aircraft – are viewed as necessary if he wants Qantas to emerge from the recession strong and ready to grow.
